The Royal Air Force Museum - Hendon
Food Service Associates were appointed by the Royal Air Force Museum, Hendon in March 2003 to manage the competitive tender to appoint a caterer to operate the visitor and corporate hospitality catering services at the Museum. Working to a very tight timescale (the contract was advertised, tendered and an appointment made in just 11 weeks) the consultant and client worked very closely to meet deadlines and ensure the new contract commenced on time.
Food Service Associates advised on the contract style and produced the service specification, invitation to tender and contract documentation for approval by the Museum. These were issued to a shortlist of companies. On receipt of the bids, FSA undertook a detailed operational and financial analysis of the submissions, providing a report highlighting the benefits and concerns identified from the analysis. Post tender interviews allowed the project team to discuss these issues with each of the tendering companies. FSA assisted the Museum in the negotiation of the final financial offer and contract terms with the preferred bidder. Capital investment into the existing kitchen and servery facilities was made by the caterer as part of the offer.
Following the advice of FSA, the Museum awarded the contract to a day visitor catering specialist. The result has been an improvement in food quality and customer service to the 200,000 visitors to the Museum.
